When deciding on a plaque there are many different aspects to consider; material, finish, size, text and fixings, how will it attach, and what option is best for me? We're here to help explain the key differences between fixing methods, and how each might suit your needs.
Fixing Holes
The tried and tested method! Fixing holes with screws offer the most permanent, durable and resistant method to fix your plaque to a surface, be that a bench, wall, wood or stone. Using screws will ensure your plaque is ready for any condition, weather and tampering! For example a public, outdoor, bench or perhaps a brick wall, where the surface may be slightly too rough and uneven for an adhesive option.
Pros
• Most permenant fixing method
• Ready for all weather
• Plaque can be removed and replaced somewhere else easily
• Great for all surfaces
Cons
• Longer installation time in comparison to self-adhesive
• Will leave drill holes on chosen surface

Self-Adhesive
The other option to consider would be an adhesive backing. We use a high tack adhesive backing which is applied to our plaques before they come to you, ready to peel and stick where you like. This option is fantastic if perhaps you don't like the look of screws, your unable to (or don't want to) put holes in the surface in which you wish to place the plaque, or just want the ease of peeling and sticking where you like!
One thing to note about Self-Adhesive is that it is best used for indoor applications, where the plaque will not be exposed to the elements. Adhesive used in harsh conditions can deteriorate over time and we would always recommend screw fixtures in these circumstances.
Pros
• Quick and easy to install
• Won't leave holes in a wall
• Allows more space on the plaque for engraving
Cons
• Not best suited for outdoor conditions
• Must be applied to very smooth surfaces
• Not recommended for plaques larger than 200mm x 150mm

Ultimately the decision is yours! Both methods have their benefits and downfalls, it is entirely dependant on your intended use.
